Community Yard Sale

Over the past few months the Board of Directors received numerous requests for additional yard sale days to be approved.

With the current economy the Board feels that one way to help residents of the community is to open the gates a few more days each month to allow the yard sales.

So if you’re hankering to have a yard sale - the gates will be open from 6am – noon.  Check the Calendar section of this site for the list of dates.

Please do not place any signs within the community i.e. boxes on the sidewalk or entrance island, city electrical poles, etc.

Street / Guest Parking

There seems to be a number of residents and visitors parking on the streets and residents parking in Guest Parking. This is just a reminder parking on the streets is prohibited at all times. Guest Parking is just that, for guests. Under no circumstance should any resident park in Guest Parking. Kwik Tow does frequently visit our community and will tow any vehicle it sees parked on the street. Residents parked in Guest Parking will receive a warning. Continuing to violate this rule will result in your vehicle being towed at your expense.

Solid Waste Management and you!

Arizona and local ordinances require residents to seal garbage that can cause unsanitary conditions and breeding of flies before placing it in the BLACK barrel.

Mesa's Quality Assurance Inspectors find a large number of unsealed or paper garbage bags containing food waste in the black refuse barrels on collection days. Please help maintain the sanitary conditions for a safe environment by bagging and tying your trash.

  • DO place the barrel as close to the curb as possible with the handle of the barrel facing the house.
  • DO bring the barrel in from the curb on the same day it is serviced, or no later than 6:00 a.m. on the day after.
  • DO put wet garbage, grass and animal waste in sealed plastic bags before placing them in the BLACK barrel.
  • DO NOT contaminate BLUE barrel with non-acceptable items. Mesa maintains a "three strike and you're out" policy, which means that if your BLUE barrel is found contaminated three times, City inspectors will remove the barrel.
  • DO NOT place barrel near objects that may prevent collection such as vehicles, light poles, mailboxes, planters, etc.)
  • DO NOT park vehicles near or in front of barrels that are placed out for service.
  • DO NOT overfill barrel. The lid must be closed in order for the container to be serviced.
  • DO NOT place items on the ground around the barrel or on top of the barrel itself.
  • DO NOT use any other containers other than the City provided barrels for garbage, green waste or recyclables.
  • DO NOT put dirt, mortar, concrete, plaster, building materials, toxic or hazardous material, motor oil, or unwrapped animal waste in the barrel.
  • DO NOT put hot ashes, cinders, coals, or any other burning materials in the barrel.
  • DO NOT let children play inside the barrels, or near the collection trucks.
  • DO NOT block the sidewalk preventing free access for pedestrians.

      What about shredded paper?

Shredded paper is ACCEPTABLE in the blue barrel under the following condition:

Shredded paper must be bagged and tied in a CLEAR plastic bag. Do not use plastic grocery bags as they are not clear enough for recycling sorters to easily see through them and they will discard them as trash. Residents may purchase these clear plastic bags at an office supply retailer.

*Please note that this is the only time plastic bags are allowed in the BLUE barrel which are not acceptable under Mesa's recycling program. However, this exception is made to ensure that the shredded paper is properly processed at the recycling facility. When not bagged, the shredded paper is too small for sorting.

      What about plastic bags?

Plastic bags are not acceptable in the blue barrel for the following reasons:

Collected material from the BLUE barrel is taken to an independent recycling facility where it is sorted by commodity (i.e.- aluminum, paper, glass, plastic, etc.) Plastic bags can clog the machinery and therefore interfere with the sorting process.

Many retailers have taken responsible action by providing bins at the front of their stores for their customers to place their plastic grocery bags in. Check with the local retailer to find out if they offer this type of program. If not, ask them to consider doing so.

If you have any questions about recycling or refuse collection, call the Solid Waste Management Department at (480) 644-2688.
